I’ve been baking and constantly testing recipes for years. I like to experiment but I also have many standard recipes. I like to use the best ingredients and often use seasonal fruits and vegetables in my baking products. Although I have never had formal training, I feel as though the women in my family have been training me my whole life. My mother was a baker – she has a serious bread addiction. My grandmother, Arvilla Backlund, was a tremendous baker who provided me with her family recipes before she passed in 1996. I’ve been making her amazing cinnamon buns and molasses cookies since then. And I cannot possibly forget my grandmother, Deanie Earp, who spent hours with me in the kitchen making her various cookies and pies, including her famous raisin puffs.

Bakin’ You Happy, Dillsburg: I’m an in-home baker with a certified kitchen located in Dillsburg, PA. In 2017 for my daughter’s birthday, I thought I’d be brave and make a cake for her party. I bought all the tools I would need, watched all the YouTube videos I could and baked away. Once her cake was presented to the Facebook world, I started to get requests from others to create cakes for them. I really enjoy creating these edible masterpieces and seeing the look on people’s faces when they pick up their cakes. I am a fully self-taught cake artist who makes cakes for any occasion! I do gluten-free and vegan cakes, too!

In addition to baking, I have spent many years working in the canine world. I plan large expos for dogs and their humans. Because of my love for our 4-legged best friends, I also make cakes for dogs. Why should cakes be only for humans?! I use only ingredients that are safe for dogs. So, now you can order a cake to celebrate your pup’s birthday – or just because!

Janina’s Fine Desserts, York: The pastry chef that runs our small family operation is Janina Turziak. She has been baking cakes, pastries and making wedding cakes for over 20 years. Janina trained as a pastry chef in Poland and spent 15 years creating classical pastries and decadent cakes at a French bakery in Baltimore.

She’s really in to creating custom cakes! Visit her at the bakery to talk about mousse, ganache, cream puffs, mousseline buttercream icing and more. (And trust us … it’s all very good!).

Safe & Sweet, York: Before Laura began this journey to Safe & Sweet, she was a highly medicated pre diabetic patient for ten years, she found herself obese and unhealthy for a majority of her life, and truly knew there had to be another way.

She was introduced to the Keto lifestyle, and saw results immediately. Rapidly losing 100 pounds, and getting off her diabetic medication completely, she knew she had found the answer she was longing for, but realized quite quickly there was a huge component missing.

Starting in the kitchen of her home, she began to practice making all the beloved treats she now serves, to perfection. As she started to share them with family and friends, she found them truly blown away with how tasty they could still be, while also being health-conscious.

Fast forward 3 1/2 years later, to a lot of hard work and dedication in the now full size keto bakery in York on South Queen Street! Through a lot of trials and successes, Safe & Sweet is growing and is happy to bring healthier treat options, to your home from ours. So you can still indulge, without over indulging.
