March 21st — 3/21 — is World Down Syndrome Day. For this week’s episode of Fireflies and Whoopie Pie, Cassy talks about learning her son has Down syndrome, misconceptions and assumptions about Down syndrome, and the new “Assume That I Can” ad from Coor Down.
Despite numerous advances, both in medicine and in culture, ableism is still rampant, and misconceptions and untruths still flourish. With better assumptions and more inclusion, we can work to make a positive difference – for people with Down syndrome and all disabilities.
