The weather may be getting colder, but it doesn’t mean you have to stay inside! There are so many fun winter sports to take advantage of – skiing, sledding, skating! – that will mean family fun all winter long. And thankfully, there is no shortage of activities to be found in South Central PA.

Winter Sports in Berks County
- Bear Creek Mountain Resort, Skiing and Tubing: Skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities can shred some snow here. Trails range from beginner to a Black Diamond trail with a 50% slope for expert skiers. You can also go tubing, for anyone aged six and up.
- Body Zone, Ice Skating: Stop by for one of their public sessions, or sign your kiddos up for lessons – power skating, figure skating, youth hockey, and more!
- Winter Wonderland at Santander Arena, Ice Skating: The Reading Royals present this FREE family-friendly opportunity to go ice skating at Santander Arena throughout the winter season. Dates run from November through February, and registration is required.
Winter Sports in Cumberland County
- Colonel Denning State Park, Ice Skating: With the right weather conditions, ice skating is permitted on the lake. Be sure to test the ice thickness for safety before skating!
- Pine Grove Furnace State Park, Ice Skating: Head to Laurel Lake when the weather is right for ice skating! Be sure to test the ice thickness before skating.
Winter Sports in Dauphin County
- Twin Ponds Ice Arena, Ice Skating: Tons of icy fun can be had here, from dropping in for a public skate sesh to signing your kids up to play hockey or learn figure skating.
- Hershey Figure Skating Club, Ice Skating: Most of the club’s offerings involve skating lessons, including an all-ages learn-to-skate class, but they also have freestyle ice offered, so you and your family can skate on the same ice that the Hershey Bears do!
Winter Sports in Lancaster County
- Lancaster Ice Rink, Ice Skating: Sign your kids up to learn to skate, play hockey, or try out figure skating, or just pop in for a public skate session. There’s also stick and puck for both adults and kiddos for a less-intense hockey session.
- Regency Ice Rink, Ice Skating: Whether you’re an adult or a kid, there are programs to learn to play hockey for people of all skill levels. They also have 30 public skate sessions running between November and March.
- Buchanan Park, Sledding: This is a favorite for locals to go sledding each winter, so if you’ve got snow, break out your tubes and sleds and head that way.
Winter Sports in Lebanon County
- Iron Valley Tubing, Tubing: With tons of lanes that equal over 900 feet in length, this is a great spot for a day full of snowy fun.
- Klick Lewis Arena, Ice Skating: Learn to skate, play ice hockey, sign up for figure skating, or just have fun at a public skate session!
Winter Sports in York County
- Roundtop Mountain Resort, Skiing and Tubing: Enjoy winter fun all season long with passes to go both tubing and skiing. For added fun, check out their Dew After Dark events in January and February, and hit the slopes at night!
- Codorus State Park, Sledding: There are several hills available to go sledding on, with varying intensity. For a gentler ride, head to Pigeon Hill in the Marina Day Use Area. For a faster, steeper ride, go to the Chapel Cove area, where there is a 500-foot sledding hill.
- Samuel S. Lewis State Park, Sledding: Head to the south and east faces of Mt. Pisgah for sledding hills with a 100-foot descent over a 600-foot run.
- Avalanche Xpress, Tubing and Ice Skating: Enjoy a day outside full of winter fun, with both snow tubing and an outdoor ice rink! Warm up afterwards with some hot chocolate by one of their fire pits.
- York Ice Arena, Ice Skating: Home to TWO NHL-sized ice rinks, you can drop in for an public skate, learn to figure skate or play hockey, and more!
