Halloween is just around the corner, which means there is plenty of spooky fun in South Central PA to be had! Trick-or-treating is exciting, but there are also parades and parties a-plenty to keep families busy all month long.

So if you’re looking to get your little ghosts and goblins into the Halloween spirit, then read on for all the info on what’s happening in the area!

Halloween Events in Berks County

  • Halloween Hike, Berks County Heritage Center: Enjoy a guided (non-spooky) Glow Hike along the Union Canal Trail, visit with characters of the Tulpehocken Creek valley and learn about the critters that call the Parks home! Hikes run every half hour starting at 5pm. Costumes are welcome, but make sure you can walk in them. After your hike, explore the site and hitch a family-friendly hayride out to Deppen Cemetery, roast a marshmallow over an open fire or listen to a spooky story at Epler’s One-Room Schoolhouse.
  • Temple Halloween Parade, Muhlenberg Elementary Center: The Temple Halloween Parade is the beginning of Halloween parades in Berks County. You don’t want to miss it. This year the parade is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th starting at 6PM (with a rain date of Sunday, October 8th starting at 4PM). Over 70 groups including High School Bands, car groups, Fire Companies, business floats, small and large costumed groups, and youth groups participate each year. The parade begins at the Muhlenberg Elementary Center and travels north up Kutztown Rd. and turns left onto Mt. Laurel Ave.
  • Ghost Lantern Tours, Crystal Cave: This special tour presents spooky and sinister ghostly experiences at the haunted cave from the past and present. Guides, wearing Victorian clothing, present the original Crystal Cave tour from the 1870’s and also the curious and unexplained incidents that occurred inside the cave and on the cave grounds during the 1800’s. Join us as we go back in time and see Historic Crystal Cave by the glow of hand-held lantern light. You will hear stories about Crystal Cave that have never been part of the modern day cavern tour. This unique tour guarantees great family entertainment.
  • Haunted Hollow, Jim Dietrich Park: Come on out this October 13th, 14th and 15th to Jim Dietrich Park and take a ride a on a tractor-pulled haunted hayride through the dark and mysterious woods along the Schuylkill River to see who or what is waiting for you around that corner or behind that tree. If you make it out in one-piece venture over to the haunted barn. There you will find yourself in a prison with dark hallways and rooms filled with inmates that don’t want you to leave! IF you escape the prison, make sure to stop by one the several food vendors outside for a refreshment. You’ll need it!
  • Topton Halloween Parade, Downtown Topton: Two Weeks until Topton’s biggest event. The 67th Annual Topton Halloween Parade. There is still time to register groups for this event. Contact Roylene at 610-682-1755.
  • Daniel Boone Optimist Club Halloween Parade, Lake Drive Park and Recreation Area: Rain date: Tuesday 10/24/2023. Groups and floats welcome. ***Please note: Costume/Group/Float Registration: 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Costume contest, cash prizes awarded. Pet category. Free refreshments to registered participants.   • Spring Township Halloween Parade: Annual Halloween parade kicks off at 7pm. Rain Date 10/19. Parade forms at Hillvale Ave behind the bank on 724.
  • Birdsboro Rotary Halloween Parade, Daniel Boone Area High School: On Thursday October 19 the Birdsboro Rotary Club will be hosting its Annual Halloween Parade. Registration: 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Daniel Boone Senior High. Judging will take place at 6:00 p.m. Awards 6:30pm with the parade starting promptly at 7:00 p.m.
  • Oley Halloween Parade, Downtown Oley: Oley Halloween Parade along Main St. Parking Available at Oley Fire Co. Fairgrounds.
  • Trunk or Treat Classic, Classic Harley-Davidson: Come on out to Classic’s motorcycle training lot from 3-5 for the Animal Rescue League of Berks County’s Trunk or Treat! All ages and pets are invited to participate. There is No cost to attend! There will be goodies distributed by each participating “trunk”. Animal Rescue League will be in attendance hosting 2 “trunks”, one for humans and one for pets!
  • Great Pumpkin Parade, Northride, Mohnton: It is a tradition during the Mohnton-Cumru Lions Club Great Pumpkin Parade that the participants shower the children on the parade route with Halloween candy. To view the streets of Mohnton, lined with little children dressed in their Halloween costumes with hundreds of bright orange pumpkins at the ready to collect all of that candy, you’ll agree, the only name befitting this parade is the “Great Pumpkin Parade.” Food vendors line the streets and offer a variety of goodies such as Philly Cheese Steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cakes, French fries, soft drinks and balloons.
  • Boyertown Halloween Parade, Downtown Boyertown: The Boyertown Halloween Parade Assoc. hosts the annual parade which will begin at 7pm.
  • Bally Halloween Parade, Bally Main Street: Children Marching in the Parade Will Receive: $1.00 – Courtesy of the Bally Lions. Cash Prizes for Floats – Tons of Candy – Fun Costumes – Marching Bands and More!!! Please visit the ‘Bally Lions Club’ Facebook page for additional information and maps including the location for registration.
  • Halloween Hike ‘n’ Treat, The Nature Place: Get spooky with Berks Nature! Don your favorite costume and take a guided twilight hike through Angelica Creek Park, collecting candy from baskets placed along the trail – it’s trick-or-treating through the woods! A Berks Nature naturalist will help you spot other unexpected treats, like animal signs or nocturnal wildlife. At the end of the hike, settle down for even more sweets: roasted s’mores over our crackling fire pit. Costumes are encouraged but not required, but please bring a flashlight for the hike. Registration closes Wednesday, October 25th. $5 per person!
  • Spooktacular Halloween Ice Cream for Breakfast, Sweet Ride Ice Cream: Celebrate Halloween with us at our Spooktacular Halloween Ice Cream for Breakfast event from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.! Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be attending 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in their Halloween costumes! In addition to our regular menu, there will be our regular homemade Waffles and Ice Cream, Halloween Cereal Sundaes, Boo Nilla Shakes, Pumpkin Brownie sundaes, Spider Sundaes, Monster Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches, Spooky Spider Waffle Sundaes, Apple Cider and more – all available for purchase! Don’t forget to wear your costumes! We hope to see you!
  • Trunk or Treat, Muhlenberg Community Library: This is a free community-friendly event. Only trunk registration is required. There is no registration for children to Trunk-or-Treat. This event is open to all ages. Trunks Needed! We are looking for volunteers to help put on a safe, community-friendly Trunk-or-Treat event! Individuals, families, or groups are welcome to participate. Trunk-or-Treat volunteers participate by decorating the trunks of their cars and bringing candy to hand out to the trunk-or-treaters. The decorated trunks will be on display in the library parking lot from 12-2 PM. Set-up can begin at 11 AM. For the safety of the trunk-or-treaters, no cars can be moved within the designated Trunk-or-Treat area between 12 PM and 2 PM. Trunk decorations can be any theme, as long as it is family-friendly!   • Trick-or-Treat at the Museum, Reading Public Museum: Registration is REQUIRED due to limited spacing. Join Museum Educators and other community partners as we celebrate the Halloween season with a safe trick or treating event at The Museum. Children will receive Halloween and Fall themed crafts to take home in addition to coupons and snacks provided by our sponsors as they travel to the various treat stations throughout our galleries. Families will also have an opportunity to meet Daniel Tiger at this event! Pricing: Museum Members – FREE. Non-Members – Activities FREE with paid museum admission.
  • Halloween Block Party, Centre Park Historic District: Halloween block party in the park! Games, food, and magic show. Located at Centre Park at the 700 block of Centre Ave.

Halloween Events in Cumberland County

  • New Cumberland River Rescue Halloween Parade, Downtown New Cumberland: The New Cumberland River Rescue hosts the 56th annual New Cumberland Halloween Parade. The parade forms at 7 p.m. The parade route proceeds south on Bridge Street, then turns right on 3rd Street, then right on the alley to the rear of the PNC Banking parking lot, where the parade will disband. Rain Date: Monday, October 23.
  • Streets of Treats, Downtown Mechanicsburg: This family-oriented event, presented by the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, features safe, daytime trick-or-treating, crafts, games and other children’s activities. This event is held in downtown Mechanicsburg. Pick up your trick-or-treating bag and map of participating businesses at the Square on the day of the event (SE corner of Main St) and guess the weight of the pumpkin for a chance to win a prize. Parking: FREE street parking in downtown Mechanicsburg, FREE Public lot on West Strawberry Ave.
  • Spooky Saturday, Downtown Carlisle: Georgie Lou’s is bringing back Spooky Saturday’s again for the 13th year! Children 12 and under are invited to come downtown to enjoy a day of daylight trick-or-treating at participating businesses located on the event map while families discover the unique businesses and organizations who call downtown home. Some businesses will be hosting crafts, games, and photo ops for families to enjoy as well! Friendly costumes are encouraged, but PETS ARE DISCOURAGED from attending on event day due to the expected crowding and children who may have sensory issues, such as being afraid of dogs, and insurance/liability issues.
  • Shippensburg Halloween Parade, Downtown Shippensburg: Join the fun and celebrate this spooktacular season at the 36th Annual Shippensburg Halloween Parade on Saturday, Oct. 21st at 7 PM. Hosted by the Shippensburg Kids Events Committee.
  • Camp Hill Halloween Parade, Camp Hill Borough Hall: The Camp Hill Halloween parade is scheduled for Monday, October 23. The rain date is October 24. Registration for the parade is in the Trinity Lutheran parking lot from 5 pm to 5:45 pm. The parade starts at 6 pm. The parade route starts on Market Street in front of the Trinity Lutheran Church. It continues west on Market Street to North 24th Street and then goes up North 24th Street to Walnut Street and ends at the Camp Hill Borough Building. There will be activities and refreshments in Prosser Hall for the community to enjoy after the parade and after awards have been handed out in front of the Borough Building.
  • Halloween at the Stewart House, Shippensburg History Center: Come join us at the Shippensburg History Center for our historic Halloween festivities! Decorate a turnip for Halloween! Turnips were used during the 1700s into the 1800s to ward off evil spirits on Olé Hallows’ Eve! Once you decorate these up, parent can then help you to carve them out! Also, make an 1800’s scarecrow, play games, eat food, and more!

Halloween Events in Dauphin County

  • Hersheypark Halloween: This season, experience Hersheypark Halloween like never before. Trick or treat your way through Treatville until 8 PM each night. Get your groove on with your friends during the Hershey Character Glow Dance Parties. Discover wild nocturnal animals in the dark at Creatures Of The Night. Feel the rushing thrill of iconic coasters, and even ride some in the dark. And dare to face the frightening terrors of Dark Nights that lurk in the shadows.
  • Pumpkin Palooza, Hershey Gardens: Kids, come in costume to celebrate all things pumpkin! Enjoy beautiful painted pumpkin displays, walk through pumpkin arches, see fascinating pumpkin mosaic murals and a unique “pumpkin tree!” Plus, experience the Creepy Creatures Gallery full of spellbinding reptiles, amphibians and insects. Guests can also enjoy live entertainment, food trucks and hundreds of colorful mums on display. And the sweetest ending? All children get a bag of delicious candy – – Hershey’s, of course!
  • Boo at the Zoo Weekend, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park: Children 12 years and younger: Wear a Halloween costume and get free admission (not including safari). Children’s candy stations and activities. Trick or-treat candy stations for all children through age 12. FREE Pumpkin Decorating activity for children while supplies last!
  • Trick or Treat Trek, Fort Hunter Mansion and Park: Calling all ghosts and ghouls! Come in costume to Fort Hunter Park for the Trick or Treat Trek. Follow the clues to keep your search on track. Your reward? Goodies at each stop along the way! We love seeing everyone in costume; but, for the safety of all guests, please be sure to leave all toy knives, guns, swords, and other sharp objects at home. Don’t worry, you won’t need them for this quest. This adventure is for those ages 12 & younger. Some treats may not be appropriate for infants and toddlers. Adult supervision is required. At least one responsible adult must accompany the children attending. This is a FREE event, with limited capacity. Timed tickets are required to participate and will be collected or scanned from your mobile device at entry.
  • Trick-or-Treat Night, the Governor’s Residence: An annual tradition in Harrisburg returns! Kids in costume can stop by to enjoy professionally carved pumpkins, and of course, chocolate candy at the Governor’s Residence during the city of Harrisburg’s trick-or-treat times from 5 pm – 7pm. Free parking is always available in the lot at N. 2nd and Maclay Street (diagonal from the gas station).
  • Halloween Bash at the Brownstone, Reservoir Park:The Parks & Recreation Halloween Bash at the Brownstone is an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the holiday with family and friends. This is a free event and has something to offer everyone. This year we are expanding by offering more crafts games and activities for the kids. Check out some of what we will have: Live DJ, Magician, Games, Raffle Baskets, Mask Painting, Photo Op, Costume Contest, Grilled Hotdogs and Snacks, Popcorn, Vendor Row
  • 86th Annual Paxtang Lions Club Halloween Parade, Paxtang: The Parade Route will move East on Derry Street to Wilhelm Road, North on Wilhelm to Montour, West on Montour to Paxtang Ave, South on Paxtang Ave to Derry and ending at the Municipal Building where the parade will conclude with the awarding of prizes as the results become available. People living along the parade route are requested to turn on any exterior lighting.
  • 75th Annual Hershey Halloween Parade, Derry Township: The Township of Derry Department of Parks and Recreation, in correlation with the Friends of Derry Township Parks & Recreation and the Hershey Federal Credit Union, will sponsor the 75th Annual Hershey Halloween Parade through the streets of Hershey on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 7:00 pm. A special thank you to The Hershey Company for supplying the candy for the spectators along the parade route! Judging will begin promptly at 6:15 pm. Prizes (1st – 6th Place) will be given to each division.   • Halloween Scooptacular, Turkey Hill Experience: Celebrate Halloween at the Turkey Hill Experience! Trick or Treat Bag and treats, Kettle Corn, Story Time with our Witch, Decorate your own Pumpkin, Halloween themed games and activities, Ice Cream Floats, Holiday Themed Taste Lab. Costumes are encouraged. Enjoy UNLIMITED SAMPLES of ice cream and iced tea while you are here and be sure to check out our gift shop and take a souvenir home with you! Reservations are required. These tickets are for the Halloween Scooptacular Only!
  • Trick or Treat at the Nook, Spooky Nook Sports: Our popular Trick or Treat event is back this year at The Nook! This year, we have two ticketing options. A VIP ticket option, $20/child (ages 1 – 12), includes access to trick or treat an hour earlier and admission to the Spooky Zone! The second ticketing option is our free General Admission which gets you access to Trick or Treat from 6pm – 8pm. The Spooky Zone includes a bounce house, pumpkin painting and more! Please note, all kids in the Spooky Zone, must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Attendees may purchase a Spooky Zone ticket on the day of the event for $15, but pumpkins are first come first serve. Registration is required to attend. Upon arrival, you will receive a map of Trick or Treat stops, which will consist of local vendors and Nook departments. Follow the map to each location to receive all the treats we have to offer!
  • Trick or Treat, Cherry Crest Adventure Farm: Head to the farm for a TRICK-OR-TREAT celebration from 4-6pm (or until candy runs out)!   • 2nd Annual Halloween Parade and Party, Church of the Apostles UCC: Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 21st, from 4-6PM as we proudly present our 2nd annual Halloween Costume Parade & Party! The excitement begins in the Church parking lot, where our enchanting costume parade will set off through Homestead Village, delighting members and residents along the route.   • Trunk or Treat, North Cornwall Commons: Join us for a fun night of trick or treating at North Cornwall Commons! We’ll have lots of candy, games, and more! If you’d like to reserve a space for a vehicle, please send us a message!
  • Trunk or Treat, Lebanon Valley YMCA: Join us at the Lebanon YMCA Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, October 24th from 6 – 7:30 pm. Enjoy Hotdogs, Chips, Drinks, Free Candy, and more for children 12 & under! This event is being held in the parking lot of the YMCA. Please enter from 8th or 7th street.
  • Halloween Movie Night, Allen Theatre: Calling all ghostbusters! The Palmyra PA Rotary Club is hosting a movie night at Allen Theatre in Annville on Tuesday, October 24th at 6:30pm featuring Ghostbusters (1984 version)! Tickets are limited and are available for pre-sale from Rotarians (reach out to Facebook page or call phone number on flyer) or can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. Cost is $10; cash only. In honor of World Polio Day (on 10/24), all proceeds will benefit Rotary International’s Polio Plus Campaign to continue our work in eradicating Polio from the global community.
  • 3rd Annual Family Karate Trunk or Treat, Family Karate: Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume as you trick or treat to each decorated vehicle. Games, prizes, and awards will be given out. This is a FREE event and will be held outside. There will be food trucks where food can be purchased. Halloween Events in York County

  • Codorus Trick or Treat, Codorus State Park: TRICK OR TREAT – Bring the kids trick or treating at Codorus Park along a path of over 100 Halloween displays provided by campers, local businesses, organizations and the Friends group! There’s nothing like it anywhere! FOOD VENDORS – There will be a variety food trucks on site. And don’t forget s’mores at the Friends tent! ​MUSIC – Kid’s dance off area near vendors. NATURE TENT – Provided by the Park Educational Specialist along with Nature Programs Friday and Saturday during the day at the Amphitheater.
  • Villains Express, Stewartstown Railroad Company: Sometimes it feels good to be bad… Join your favorite villains for meet and greets and a hair-raising ride full of laughs, sneers and magical Halloween trickery! Enjoy a live show and sing-along to their favorite evil songs. This not-so-scary event is family friendly and perfect for ages 1-100! Our new Villains Express train features Maleficent, the Sea Witch and one very conceited hunter. Times: 10:00am, 11:45am, 2:30pm.
  • Not Too Spooky Boo Bash, L&E Playhouse: This Halloween event is for the little ones – Ages 8 and under. Our Not too Spooky Boo Bash will have a bounce house, face painting and crafts. We are always Nut-free and will have non-food treats available as well. There won’t be any loud music or flashing lights to help keep this sensory friendly. Don’t forget about the costume contest!! BONUS- We will have a photographer in house to make sure you capture these moments with your kiddos in their costumes. We will have a fully decorated area and backdrop to make some great photo opportunities as well. (Feel free to tip photographer)
  • Ghost Tracks, Northern Central Railway of York: Get ready for fascinating kid-friendly ghost tales by narrator, Nancy Pritt, as you voyage down the tracks and through the woods to Seitzland, PA. On our return, we’ll stop at Railroad Park for a campfire (weather permitting). You’ll be able to cook hot dogs and roast marshmallows for s’mores while listening to more spooky stories by the fire. Don’t forget your lawn chairs and blankets for this spine-chilling good time! This ride is suitable for passengers of all ages. Your ticket includes the train ride, stories, campfire, and 1 hot dog and 2 s’mores. Additional hot dogs and smores will be available for purchase. Railroad Park and campfire are not wheelchair accessible.
  • Halloween Costume Special, Stewartstown Railroad Company: This Halloween train ride is family friendly, not too scary. Our Halloween Costume Special is all about costumes, so dress up in your favorite costume and show it off! Prizes will be awarded to the best costume for children under 2, children 2-12 and adults and big kids over 12. Every child receives a treat. Fun for all ages! Our 1920 passenger coach will be decorated for Halloween. Or ride in the open-air car, if you dare, and see if you can spot the spooks who live in the woods. This train ride is about 50-60 minutes long. Times listed are departure times. Please arrive 30 minutes early to pick up your ticket. Children under 2 are free but require a ticket. Our train rides are rain or shine! New this year! Book the Blue Caboose for up to 20 passengers for a flat rate. Your group will have private use of the whole caboose. Times: 4:00pm, 5:15pm, 6:30pm.
  • Halloween Express, Northern Central Railway of York: All aboard ghosts, goblins, princesses, and superheroes! All riders are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween costume to enjoy this ride to Glen Rock. After your train returns to our New Freedom station, children are invited to participate in the trunk-or-treat in the High Street parking lot next to Marge Goodfellow Park (weather permitting). In case of rain, trunk-or-treating will be held inside our train station.
  • York Halloween Parade, Downtown York: Marking its 73rd march through downtown York, the parade will launch Sunday, October 29, at 2 p.m. from the York Fairgrounds and travel east on Market Street from Richland Avenue to Broad Street. Parking is available in downtown lots and garages, no parking is permitted along Market Street. There will be various street closures, including George Street closing at 11:00am from Philadelphia to King, and other cross streets closing at 1:30pm.
