Happy Star Wars Day, and May the Fourth Be With You!
May 4th is an eagerly awaited day for geeks across the world — which includes me. I loved comics before the MCU was a Thing, adored Star Wars so much that I even loved BOTH of the Ewok movies. (Yes, I cringe at that now.) I’ve made sure to pass on my love of geekdom to my ever-enthusiastic little Padawans, so of course, when Star Wars Day rolls around, it’s an exciting day for us.
What is Star Wars Day exactly? If you don’t know, let me fill you in: it’s a play on the Star Wars phrase “May the force be with you.” It was first loosely celebrated in 2011, but by 2013, Disney made it official, and designated May 4th as Star Wars Day.
So, how can you celebrate? Get ready, because there are LOTS of fun ways to make this day full of intergalactic fun for all the Jedis in your family!

Star Wars Crafts
One super easy craft that my kids love? Lightsabers made out of pool noodles. It’s actually really easy — all you need are pool noodles and duct tape wrapped around the bottom — and your kids can have as many Jedi-Sith battles as they want, without you worrying (too much, anyway) about someone getting hurt.
Looking for more fun ideas? You can make Nebula Jars, Rey bookmarks, Yoda puppets, Moon Dough… for just a few examples!
The Star Wars Kids website also has even more fun activities, like wanted posters and Ghost Crew IDs featuring your kids’ photos.
Star Wars Food
You couldn’t have an out-of-this-world celebration without the right food! And luckily, the Star Wars website has tons of ideas. For families that love “The Mandalorian,” check out this Pog Soup recipe. If you’re looking to keep it old-school, then throw it back to the OG trilogy with some Carbonite Crunch. Any kid would love these Ewok Gingerbread Cookies, and Chewie fans will gobble up these delicious Wookiee Cookie Brownies.
Looking for a main course? Try making some Bantha Burgers, and no Star Wars meal would be complete without a serving of Blue Milk, straight from Tatooine.
Star Wars Style
Make sure you send your kiddos to school dressed out as their favorite Jedi, bounty hunter, or Sith Lord. But that’s an easy one. What about for the mamas?
If you aren’t familiar with DisneyBounding, it’s time you learned! DisneyBounding is dressing in regular clothes, but inspired by your favorite characters. Think of it this way: imagine that you’re, say, Princess Leia, and you’re getting ready to take your kids to their activities. How would Leia dress? You find the colors and accessories that give a little wink and a nod to whichever character you’re embodying that day. And don’t worry; you can find plenty of inspiration on the DisneyBound Tumblr page!
Join the Light Side… and the Dark Side
No Star Wars day would be complete without a movie marathon, but for May the Fourth, stick to the good guys. Watch the original trilogy, or the newest ones, but stick to the movies where our heroes, like Luke Skywalker or Rey, emerge victorious over the villains.
Then, the next day, you continue the fun! See, May 5th is also part of the fun, having been coined “Revenge of the Fifth.” So load up the prequels, join the Empire, and watch characters like Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine come to life!
